Post Tranny Problems.

Okay, I am wondering what type of tranny I have. It says it's a type E on the door jam, but what's that mean? Also, it clunks like a ****** when I shift from R to D, and when it's driving from 2nd to 3rd, and sometimes OD. I am wondering if I got someone with a scanner to check the truck, would the computer show problems if they're there? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

If there are any problems that would generate a code, the O/D light, on the stalk, would/will be flashing to alert you. Not sure how to tell what tranny you have, there are some good mechanics here, maybe they can help.

Check the u-joints, they will make a clunk when they are bad.

I'm having tranny issues too and was kind of wondering the same thing. I don't have any lights on though.

When you are sitting still and go from park, or neutral, to drive is this when it clunks. If the fluid level is correct this is a prime marker of a worn clutch pack.

Well, going from P/N to D is one of the better clunks out of the tranny. But, going from D/P to R, is just horrable. It will litteraly jerk the truck to hell when it shifts. Even when you have the brakes on, you can feel it real bad. I have a B&M Electronic Shift Improver (http://www.autobarn.net/noname.html) in it, but I always have it on the "off" position so, I shouldn't make it any worse. If it was my choice, I wouldn't of put it in there but I bought it that way. When I'm driving, first to second gear is fine, but second to third is a real bad clunk, and sometimes third to O/D is a bad friggin clunk. There is no lights flashing but the Check Engine light, it's on which I have to get someone to check that out. But, somone said that there might be a vaccume hose off the tranny? Or perhaps the speed sensor is bad, or the pressure might be turned up on the tranny. My problem is, I don't know what tranny I have, second off, how would I know if the speed sensor was bad? and third of all, if the pressure was turned up, how would I check if it was or not, and how would I fix it? I know it's a lot of stuff to answer but, it's greatly appreciated. Thank you so much folks.

You can check the codes yourself. Description how in the maintenance section under "diagnose trouble codes". You don't need a code reader to do it. There are no vacuum hoses to your tranny. If the speed sensor doesn't work then your speedometer also wouldn't work. You can check line pressure with a guage but I don't know the specifications. I'm sure the shift improver didn't help the condition of the tranny.

Okay. Is it possable that someone could of turned the pressure up on the tranny? If so, it must be possable to turn it down. Also, If I was to take that shift kit out, how would I take that one out, does anyone know? Thanks.
