Default Tonneau Covers & MPG

Has anyone who has installed a tonneau cover on their F150 noticed any change in MPG?

Im debating on buying a cover and was hoping it would save 1-2mpg on average? Anyone notice any difference?

I got a '13 FX4 SuperCab

Maybe a 1/4 mpg at hwy speed's...based off my old '04 truck. Best way to gain mpg's is cruise at 2 to 3 mph under the posted limit.

Thanks Paw.

I think I will invest in that money in Line-X instead.

I had a cover on 2 Fords and a Chevy before that and noticed exactly zero change in fuel economy on any of the trucks. I wasnt really expecting much of a gain so it didnt really bother me. I bought the covers for keeping whatever I was hauling dry and secure.

I've got one of those hard rolly-up toneau covers. Got it to cover the contents of the bed. Seems to me there is a slight improvement depending on driving style. However, I doubt enough to ever pay for the cover.

It's kinda like the ole open tailgate claim. Saw it on myth busters a while back..........that's all it is ...a myth. Actually you may get better with it up than down.

I remember that being the craze when I was in high school. Every guy was driving around with the tailgate down. I saw that episode of mythbusters, and if I remember correctly, keep it down would draw air flow coming over the cab straight down into the bed creating a kind of drag. When the tailgate is up, it creates a circular flow of air that allows the flow coking over the cab to continue on instead of going down and putting pressure on the bed. Really cool episode.

I just got a bak flip fibermax cover and had been curious about this. so I did an experiment yesterday.

I folded my cover up and drove 10 miles up the interstate, then got off at an exit, folded it down, and drove 10 miles back. i reset my mile monitor in between.

Going (cover open ) I got 17.6 miles per gallon
coming back ( cover closed ) I got 17.4 miles per gallon

Id say there is no difference. even the .2 mpg difference I did see was likely due to the traffic in that direction had be speeding up and slowing down more.
