Re-read the part regarding police continuous rolling radar which is where detectors shine and instant-on radar where yes that will likely get you a speeding ticket.
By the way luck has little to do with it.
I normally try to do a only couple mph's over the posted speed limit on highways. In cities i strictly obey the limit signs.
But there are times where dense highway traffic is moving well above the limit and have to keep up with the flow in order to minimize being a traffic hazard myself.
Then there are missed speed limit reduction signs or no speed limit signs at all on some rural County roads especially in unfamiliar areas, on and on.
Like i said earlier, a radar detector in my case is primarily for situational awareness with the occasional save.
Laser detectors however do work the way you said. It's a single laser beam that only focuses on one vehicle at a time. If you have a laser detector and it goes off it's probably too late for you to adjust your speed.
Luckily i have yet to see police here use laser speed detection.
Most radar detectors today also have laser detection but its next to useless.
There are laser jammers and stealth type shields out there which can defeat laser. How effective, don't know.
Laser absorbing 'stealth' shields are available which can be placed on the license plate, headlight and bumper which are the most reflective parts on a vehicle.
One such product is called Veil which i could be wrong but believe its a coating thats painted on.
With laser jammers, once they sense a laser beam they instantly transmit a laser beam back to the source to confuse the police laser reading.
Radar detectors and laser jammers are illegal in some States.
