Thoughts on this OEM air filter?

FWIW, suggest a dirty air filter does a better job of filtering, outside of any leaks or media failures, than does a clean filter. Gots to balance this against the corresponding reduction in airflow affecting needed performance.
Just sayin' changing filters only because they look dirty or have reached some magic mileage may be an unnecessary added cost of maintenance...

Truck now has 90K and still on the original air filter, with an inspection of the filter and the air box cleanliness done at each oil change judging so far to be good for the next run. Noted that driving here is almost all paved roads, with oil consumption still remaining near zero, pretty much at the same point filled to last change.
Have grown to trust the oil life monitor, after many years of religiously following a 3,000 mile interval. Would get almost 10,000 miles before the monitor hollered when doing all interstate driving, now that driving is all short-trippin' in-town - doing good to get 2,000 miles before the monitor is hollerin' for a refresh.
Transmission is a coming opportunity, not comfortable with the promised 'lifetime' fluid interval when hoping to get 200K or better, as with my '89, which I still see running around town now 8 years after I sold it.
Looking to balance the costs of any above-and-beyond scheduled maintenance costs against how much more truck life is gained with those related cost benefits. As there's no clear-cut formula, just have to roll with what's comfortable, acknowledging that it very well could be a good decision which turns out bad.

Don’t understand the gamble with 90k on an air filter when they are so cheap and easy to replace.

With as much as people pay for these damn things why anyone would want to skimp on oil changes and air filters etc. is beyond me.
