Question Swap a 5.0 with a 5.8?

I have a 1993 F150 with a blown 5.0. I also have a 1986 5.8 that runs great. I'd like to put the 5.8 into my F150.
Several questions.
1. Will it bolt up?
2. How about the auto Trans that is in the F150?
3. What kind of wiring problems will I have?
4. Is this too much trouble?
The F150 had a rebuilt engine in it when it blew. Seems that I was about 1,500 past the warranty! So I'm a little gun shy to get another rebuilt engine.

Default Lotta Work:

(Re: My OEM manual for the '92 F-Series) I don't think the swap would be adviseable. The intake systems for the two engines are similar, but, at least, the lower intake manifolds are not the same, so you'd need to find an intake system for a '93 351 (5.8L). Some of the sensors and components on the 302 intake system may fit the 351...don't know which ones. The '86 351 EEC is pretty much a disconnect with the '93 and most or none of the components will work.

Transmissions, E40D, AOD and C6 should bolt up to either engine, but there may be a difference in flex plates (flywheels) and torque converters.

If I were considering the swap, I wouldn't....I'd bite-the-bullet and find a rebuilt 302 short block or a guaranteed salvage yard engine and save myself a lot of grief.

Now, there may be some members out there who have some hands-on experience with the swap you are entertaining; let's hope we can get some more info for you from them.

Default More Info:

....took a look at Edelbrock intake manifolds for the 302 and 351 on www.summitracing.com .

The lower intake manifold for the 351 (Edelbrock 3386) is common for all EFI engines '69-'97. The plenum, upper section of the intake system, from a 302 EFI, '87-'93, might bolt up to the 351 lower section. The gasket is the same for both engines. If that is the case, and it appears to be so, then dumping the 351 into your ride in place of the 302 may be a viable option since all the sensors and components for the 302 can be carried over to the 351.

Default Thanks

I have to say, I sure like your last reply MUCH better than the first one!
I want to thank you for your time. I realize that it takes a lot of time to read these posts and then to research the answers!! I didn't know where to start. Looks like I'll be trying this swap. Thanks again.

Default Keep on Looking:

Be wise and don't take my word for this....continue researching to be certain that you don't back yourself into a corner. What I have found is encouraging, but then it's not MY swap....not that I'd try to give you a bum-stear. That Summit Racing site can give you lots of good info and there is a tech support section run by the outfit that could probably give you some help as well. Good Luck.

BTW: I like the 5.8L (351). It's a bullet-proof engine compared to the 5.0L (302). As I recall, the crank has 3" mains and the firing order is set to minimize torque load on the front main bearing.
