Default 302 251 flex plate

I am going to loose it here soon, this is the third transmission ive put in my truck the truck is a 1987 f150 two wheel drive i swapped the motor, i put a 5.8 out of a 1994 f-150 4x4. it seems the transmission isnt pumping fluid, is the flex plates different depths from 302 to 351, the truck has an aod when the torque convertor slips in it clicks 3 times before it stops, is that correct??

any ideas thanks chad

My thought isn't pretty, hopefully I'm miss reading your post. Believe the flex plates are interchangeable, before I go off base here, has this truck been in operation since first engine swap or repair?

Default There is a Difference:

Flex plates are different for the two engines, but I think the variation is only in the counterweight. My '92 OEM manual shows interchangeability of the 302 and the 351 with E40D, AOD and C6 transmissions.

Adjustment of the TV cable/rod for the AOD is critical. More AOD trannies die because that issue is not properly addressed.

the motor has been run, its just the tranny that is the problem.

Default Tranny Info:

Go here for lots of good info on the AOD:
http://www.becontrols.com/
There is in the tech section the procedure recommended to set the TV pressure in the AOD.

Then, if you want to spend a buck or two, there is Baumann's TCS transmission controller that will let you retrofit an AODE/4R70W into your '87.

I can't be sure about the "3-click" assembly of the torque converter to the tranny; however, when the converter is pushed onto the tranny, first the front seal friction has to be overcome...that might be click #1. Clicks 2 and 3 may be associated with the several splined shafts that have to engage: oil pump, front main shaft and direct-drive shaft...but I'm only guessing.
