Default Sunk 4.6L

K, crazy question here... my bro has a 98 F150 with a 4.6L in it. He sunk the front end of the truck in a lake and tells me he's got to buy a new engine. The truck still runs, but one cylinder has some pretty low pressure. Wouldn't it be better to just rebuild the engine? Or would that cost more then replacing it? Anyone with some idea's or suggestions?

By pressure do you mean compression? Which cylinder is it?

I haven't actually seen the truck cuz he lives 4 hours away from me, but yeah, guessing it's compression. and not sure on what cylinder.

Ok I got ya. Do you know how far it sunk? Was it completly under? If he is dead set on taking the engine out one way or another, he might as well rebuild it. If he does that at least he knows what he is starting out with. Boar it over a little bit, have the heads worked on, put a performance ignition in it and a set of headers, he would be set. Putting it in water would be the best mistake he ever made then.

Yeah, I kinda told him to do the same. he's talking about selling the truck now, don't know why, he's got a nice set-up with a 6" lift and 35" tires, air suspension in the rear, manual trans.... anyways.. I'm kinda thinking of buying it off him and wanting to see if it's worth the work... it couldn't have sunk too far, cuz he said that the only thing wrecked was the engine... I guess he was driving along the bank of a river in about a foot of water and hit a drop off.... anyways, he said he'd sell to me for about 4,000 Canadian with a 5.4L he's got that could be put in, but looking at getting an new computer and what not to do that then...

It's probably just a bent valve or pushrod.

Default sunk to many times

ive sunk my 4.6 completely submerged 6 times it doesnt hurt the motor as long as you follow the correct steps flush all fluids right when it happens. what you will have probablems with is the electrical componants of the truck. PONDS SOMETIME GET A LITTLE TOO DEEP FOR ME.

not sure what all was wrong with it, but I had gone down there yesterday for a friends dad's funeral and he was there driving the truck again, must have got it fixed. Never got the chance to ask him what was wrong... guess I lose out not able to buy it anymore.. LOL!!! Would have made me a nice mudder... I would have totally done that up.
