Recently my drivers front caliper and rotor got so hot it was smoking, so I replaced the calipers and pads on both sides front of truck, seemed okay for abit now getting hot and and can feel the truck self braking, and same rotor / caliper smoking again, 2009 f150 Fx4, any ideas?

 

Did you replace the bracket that goes with the caliper? When you did that, did you bleed the brakes?

How do the brake lines from the caliper to the body look? I've seen lines that cracked and had an internal blockage slowing down pressure release. Other than that I would work my way to the booster.

Is your pedal all the way up? Can you lift it? Is there vacuum on the booster?

Sorry, lot's of questions that could help us understand what is going on.

 

Yes replace bracket and bled the brakes, didn't closely examine the rubber line from caliper to frame where it reduces, but did notice it was odd that it didn't drip from the banjo bolt, so I am wondering about the rubber line now

 

I second the brake line concern, as I've seen that on a previous Super Duty.

 

The front brake hoses detiriate on the inside and creates a clog that doesn't allow the brake fluid to go back thru the hose after braking. The result is a dragging rotor. Replaced both of mine several years ago. A known issue with these trucks after they get miles on them.

 

Replace your soft lines asap. Rebleed, and you should be good to go.

 

Oh, I forgot, the front pads are Inner/Outer specific. The inner pad has two humps on the top of the pad known as Dog Ears. Make sure you don't have the pads reversed.
