I'm interested in knowing if I should use Motorcraft only or can I use another brand for my 2012 F-150 ALT with 5.0 V8?

OEM matches engineer specs. Most mechanics recommend replacing with what you took out regardless of vehicle.

I ran an NGK in one cylinder on my 2010 5.4 while waiting for a cracked plug to be replaced. The notable difference was that the NGK was three times the price.
