Default Spare tire

So what genius mounts the spare tire with the valve up?
Hard to check the tire pressure without lowering the tire.

I think they all come that way from the factory. At least the 3 I’ve owned have.

Somebody on the forum has mentioned this before. An extension hose was suggested. p.s. I think that the spare tire is placed that way to protect the valve stem.

Amazon Amazon

Just realized that I could use a short metal one myself because most air hose fill nozzles barely fit between my steel valve and steel tire rim.

How mine came OEM, it's easy to lower on that cable to check pressure though.

It’s mounted that way maybe so you’ll actually use the winch and lock cover often enough that it won’t seize up and become useless.

this^, and also suspect it is to protect face of wheel, both from rocks/debris as well as keep mounting/hoist marks on backside too.

And keep track of the anti-theft lock key. Mine didn't have one when I bought it. That's a whole separate project.

Every truck I've ever seen came that way. Not exactly sure why, but it they're all doing it that way and have been doing so for decades there is probably a reason.

A couple of guesses. It protects the valve stem from damage when driving off-road. Due to the offset of the rim, it also protects it as well.

OTOH, I have never had a full size temporary spare. I was to replace this with a real tire.

Default Dual head air chuck with gauge

I have an old analog Snap On dual air chuck similar to this one pictured. When I purchased my used 2020 with Gold Certification in April I checked all the tires and found the spare only had 25 psi. Probably never checked since new. Only 12k miles and well maintained. I filled the spare with valve stem up and tire mounted in place. They are installed up because of cabling in the spare tire carrier. Ever try to reverse it? 🤣
