sound system
I just got a (new to me) 2008 f-150 lariat supercrew for my birthday and I am looking to add an amp and subs to increase stereo performance. I was asking you guys for any suggestions or what amp and subs to purchase and where the best place is to put them in the truck....TIA
Alot of people here like JL audio, however i dont know your budget... I would replace the factory speakers first then add a 5 channel amp then a sub, then new radio but thats me...
Personally you can get way cheaper and Just as good as jl for alot cheaper..really depends on what you are looking for...spl or quality...personally I love rf power series...they're componenets are awesome.subs are great as well
I just had a Polk Audio system installed and I can't believe how good it sounds. I'm only running one 10" sub mounted under the back seat and it's has plenty of thump. I have one amp powering the door speakers and one on the sub. I've also had JVC components that sounded incredible too. I don't have any experience with any other brand but you can't lose if you go with Polk or JVC.

The installer recommended it and it's definitely worth it. A lot of songs have way too much bass and you end up having to turn down the volume to compensate for the amount of bass. You don't have to do that with the sub controller. All you have to do is twist the **** and you have total freedom of how much bass is being projected through our sub. Trust me, it's worth having one.
You can get away with one amp to drive the sub and use the head unit to power the door speakers and it will sound pretty decent. I highly recommend a sub controller module. I don't know if you know what a sub controller module is, but it controls the amount of power to your sub. You can adjust it from zero to full.

if your headunit already has subwoofer control and a set of 'woofer dedicated RCAs, there is no need for a separate gain ****.
if you plan on going with an Alpine stereo, they make a four channel amp that integrates with the headunit that is very small and can easily be stashed somewhere in the center stack.
