I like the Ranger it's just too big for me to justify, and the F150 has better performance in practically every aspect. If Ford ever offers a basic RCSB to begin with. and put it on a diet, I'd certainly change my mind. Imagine a small cab aluminum bodied Ranger with a 2.7, what fun! KM
HUH? 2020 Ranger has a payload ranging from 1,609 to 2,128 pounds. 2020 F150 has a range of 1,142 to 2,309 pounds.

No doubt the Tacoma is a very solid vehicle but I could never get used to owning something that, every time I looked at it, it makes me see TURD on the side of the box.
Couldn't someone from the US Toyota agency have realized that? Call it Toyota Off Roader (TOR) or something, but not a TRD!

I do not tow or haul stuff anywhere near the limit of my truck so the info came from sources as this and others, https://www.donjohnsonmotors.com/model-comparisons/2019-ford-f-150-vs-2019-ford-ranger/
Also I have seen Ford F150 door stickers that list combined passenger and cargo loads over 2600 pounds new at a dealership.
Anyway I listed my reasons to prefer staying in a 150, you have yours for possibly changing, any other problems? KM

good luck!

My 2 year old F150 is good, besides new fuel injectors, catalytic converter and a few sensors. Stuff happens.

I had a Toyota truck that I bought new and kept for 13 years, daily driver, never needed any repair, only brakes and tires. It was the only vehicle I owned that never had any issue. My Ram had more than a dozen repairs in a decade.

Toyota is a good truck, no need to bash it. Honestly if I had to hit the outback I would choose that Taco over any other vehicle.

Was a good truck. Not what it used to be now. They're selling today's trucks on the reliability of toyotas 15-25 years ago.
I had a 94 4runner that I couldn't kill. My folks had 2 early 90s 4runners. They were all great trucks. 22RE is legendary. The new V6 is absolutely fantastic, but the transmission is just awful.
I'm not the only one who thinks the trans is bad:
https://www.caranddriver.com/toyota/tacoma
and here's a shocker, hasn't been in JD Power's mid-size truck list since 2015 https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2019/02/...ission-issues/
this is a couple years old, but "worst buy" seems pretty harsh. https://www.torquenews.com/1083/cons...y-bothers-them

Just saying. Toyota's reliability was legendary. Now....are they sleeping? They know how to build a great product.

Or their reliability doesn't stand out as much as it used to because everybody else is finally catching up. Toyota always had problem areas (oil sludge in V6, oil burning in 4 cylinders, and rusting in everything) but compared to everyone else their problems were minor. At one time only Toyota or Honda could make it to 200,000 miles with only minor repairs now it's common to see a 10 year old Ford with 200,000 miles on it running strong and all accessories still working. Mercedes used to have the same reputation for building the most reliable luxury car, or so we thought. Then came Lexus and it singlehandedly redefined everyone's expectation of luxury car reliability. With that said, if most folks had to choose between a 2010 Ford with 200,000 miles on it or a 2010 Toyota with 200,000 miles on it to drive across country most folks are jumping in the Toyota, and so would I. Toyota and Honda still lead the industry in reliability but the gap is closing.

BTW criticizing Toyota's transmission for issues on a forum where there are pages of complaints about Ford's new 10 speed transmission is ironic.

All he's doing is pointing out the transmission issues the 3rd gen taco's had. Not ironic, not bashing the rest of the truck. I'm sure Toyota will hash it out eventually. I still think Toyota builds one heck of a vehicle too (I've got a Sienna in the garage and I owned a Lexus IS300 years ago) but if I was looking at a midsized truck, the issues with the transmission would be enough to scare me away from the current Tacoma.

Of course there's more than just reliability with a truck. Back in 06 I was dead set on getting a Tacoma until I drove one. I didn't care for the legs forward sitting position and the ride was like a Camry. After several test drives between Frontiers and Tacoma's I bought a Frontier. The reliability wasn't great, but dang was it a good truck that I still miss today.
