Miracles never cease. I just now went out to see if the trans "mode button" would do anything in D mode. Nope - still starts in "1" no matter what. BUT, when I put it in Snow/Wet mode and then went into M mode the "+" button put me into M2! I thought I had tried all combinations before but I guess not. The key is to hit the "+" button before taking your foot off the brake. I think I was rolling on my previous attempts.

Yes - that is what I want. Unfortunately, the 3.5 eco with 10-speed has no M2. You have D and M. D lets you limit top gears using the +/- button. M lets you shift manually starting at "1" from a stop. You cannot get to "2" until you reach xx mph within a preset range for 2nd gear. Likewise for gears 3-10.
I live in a mountainous area and being able to lock out 6th gear on the rural 55mph roads is great. My old truck would just constantly shift between 6th and 5th and back.

Even my 2002 Ford truck will start out in 2nd gear.
