Default second gear start?

I have a 2018 Lariat with 3.5 Turbo and 10-speed trans. Is there a way to start out in second gear as one would like to do on ice? The select shift in M mode will not let me go into second until I have reached some specific speed. This seems like a no-brainer for an advanced truck but I cannot figure it out. I would expect for nearly $60k one could get something that people have used in cold weather for 100+ years.

Update: I found that using Snow/Wet mode in D and then going into M mode let me shift to M2 before moving from a stop. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

Hmm, the 6 speed will go into M2 at a complete stop. I wonder what would keep the 10 speed from doing it since the gearing should easily be able to handle a take off.

I'm about 70% sure I can put mine in M2 from a stop, and I'm 100% sure the sales guy said it would start from a stop in second (as you noted, it's ideal for low-traction situations).

Not sure if this will work, but couldn't you use the (+/-) button on the shifter and lock out 1st?

The +/- button will not let you lock out gears from the bottom up (that I know of). In D mode it lets you lock out from the top down (10,9,8 etc.). In M mode it lets you up and down shift within reason, meaning the shift is not allowed if the speed is outside the range for the gear you request. In M mode you always start in 1st and upshift is not allowed until you reach xx mph for each gear.

This works. A couple years ago my truck wouldn’t go into 4WD in the winter. My driveway insists on 4WD in the winter. Put some extra weight in the bed, locked the e-locker, and walked up the driveway with it locked in 2nd gear (6 speed). Worked like a charm.

Yes - that is what I want. Unfortunately, the 3.5 eco with 10-speed has no M2. You have D and M. D lets you limit top gears using the +/- button. M lets you shift manually starting at "1" from a stop. You cannot get to "2" until you reach xx mph within a preset range for 2nd gear. Likewise for gears 3-10.

The 6 speed limits shifting into gears at too slow/high of a speed as well but for some reason we are able to get M2 from a stop. I want to say I was able to get M3 from a stop - I'll have to test this when I go out later.

That's interesting, especially since 1 & 2 are deeper in the 10 speed than the 6. So your shifter just has PRNDM ? My 2012 (6 speed speed of course) has PRNDM21. The "2" and "1" positions are a bit redundant, but I can shift it into "2", or shift into "M" then select 2nd from a stop.

Nope, no "2" no "1" just D and M. Maybe I will try adding "2" with a magic marker.
