Road Force Balancing Tires
I opted to replace the Goodyear Wranglers with Michelin Defender LTX M/S. I've had pretty good luck with all the Michelin tires I've purchased in the past but the set on my truck now just doesn't ride as smooth as I think they should. Most of the time it seems fine but every once in awhile it has this feeling come about it, not an out of balance feeling but like a hobble ever so slight.
I took it back to the tire store, a medium size mom & pop place I trust and bought many tires from. Asked them to RFB them. They have one of the hunter machines. He told me he found one where the RF was a little high but moved the tire on the rim and got the number withing acceptable range. I asked him what that was and it was like 22. He said the others were withing acceptable range and only one needed a slight re balance but not moved on the rim like the other one. When I left and got out on an open smooth road I felt no difference.
I did some internet reading and read where some of the Michelin LTX tires have this problem. My tire guy has replaced tires for me in the past so I believe if one had been bad (in his opinion) he would have swapped it out. I also read that a RFB reading of 22 is not that good but I was told that is withing spec for a 275-65-18 size.
The half-worn factory Goodyear's were smooth as silk so I don't think it's the truck. Should I contact Michelin and ask them? What has been your experience?
If it were a "cheap" set of tires thats one thing but these were anything but cheap.
