Retro Power
Here's a project that I want to undertake with my 2000 F150 XLT 4x4 standard cab, and would like some input on it. I am extremely fed up with the lack of power and cost of getting anything done to it that I am unable to do myself. So, what I plan/want to do is get rid of the 5.4 Triton and auto trans, rip out all the unnecessary wiring and replace it with an older 351C and manual trans or at least a built C-6. I know I can sell my drive train for enough to get the drive train I want, or at least a 302 and C-4, which would be better than what I have, at least to me. Has anyone ever done this or know of it being done?

I wouldn't. Absolutely nothing is going to bolt in. A project like this usually results in an undriveable pile of parts. What would you gain in terms of self-serviceability ?

So, swapping a Lightning 5.4 costs too much, but building up an older smog era engine plus trying to get the rest of the drivetrain to run with the rest of the truck isn’t?
Rethink that one.

Putting in the engines you list will result in a truck with less power in all ranges than the 5.4L and utterly illegal in terms of emissions anywhere.

As far as serviceability, I am an old school mechanic. Getting rid of confusor systems and getting back to basics would allow me to work on the entire truck. And with simplicity comes reliability. Not to mention parts would be cheaper.
