Default Remote Start Advice

I have a 2010 F150 screw and want to get a remote start, as I live in Eastern Canada and want to warm the truck up before leaving for work in the morning or at night when it's really cold. The dealer tells me $500 installed. I looked on the Ford accessories website and there are 3-4 plug and play remotes in the $250 to $300 range. What is involved to hook them up? Does the dealer need a bypass kit like the older remotes used to? Would it be $200 labor to install?

I am unsure about what the factory install would require. If you are going to get a remote start though, why not get a whole package? I found my Viper 5901 with remote start on Ebay for 180 and had a local shop install it, plus my extars that I added on for 200. Best Buy wanted 599 plus tax for the same thing. I walked out paying 380 flat and am a very happy customer. Love my remote start....of course mine is for starting the air down here in S. Fla!!

The plug and play remote start systems only work on 2011 and newer trucks. That is why the dealer is charging $500 because the install is a lot more complicated.

if you have some electrical knowledge and can read/understand a wiring diagram and you are able to test wires for proper voltage output the remote starts are easy to install. they just take time. i bought two systems. both were python, one went into a 2008 f250 the other into a 2002 mustang gt. i paid $100 for the units on amazon plus $30 for the PATS override module and installed it myself.

called a local place that installs em they were going to charge close to $300 plus $50 more to hook up the door locks. didnt even ask about the defogger and trunk for the mustang. $50 was to hook up two friggin wires to the door locks with a relay.

I had a Viper 4204 remote start installed. I bought mine and had it installed at a local audio shop. it was $400 give or take with the PATS and install with system.

Like pity said, if you have some basic knowledge you can save a ton of money, I have the knowledge but didn't have the time and it was nice dropping it off in the morning then picking it up in the afternoon and didn't even scrape a knuckle! lol

Aftermarket will have more features and better range.
