I didn't say a normal box... I said a custom box CAN get as high as that price. I'd say the average price is closer to 2-300 for a custom sub box here. What I am trying to say is car audio can add up quite fast depending on what you want and where you want it in your vehicle.

Now that I have reread the original post I can see why $2200 is a lot. He wants an 8" sub and some 5x7s along with an amp. So unless they quoted him top of the line, which I doubt he needs anyway, this is pretty high.

 

Replace all OEM speakers with decent quality speakers from your brand of choice : ~$150-250

Place a Sound Ordnance B-8PTD under the passenger seat or rear seat and tap into the Hi/Lo from speakers: $200

Replacing the door speakers is not difficult at all. 6mm and 8mm sockets and you can have the door paneling off in minutes. Tap into the factory speaker wires via splicing or plug.

This is the direction I went with mine. Sure, I can't rattle the mirrors of the car 5 back from me but the combo of upgraded speakers and modest base has a nice, full sound.

 

Getting this done this week, crew cab 4 r spec alpine, jl 8 " ported sub 2 amps 1 to power the speakers 1 for the sub nothing crazy keeping stock head unit for now $ 1600.00

Take the quote they gave you and divide it by 2. 2200 is laughable man.

 

you should be able to get all door speakers replaced / a sub / 5 channel amp/ installed for around $1000 easy. That's would be keeping the Ford head unit

Just remember these smart trucks shut down the tunes after 15-20min of playing the stereo with the engine off - not sure if its on a timer or if its monitoring the battery voltage & if you have the doors open & key on the
truck is beeping like a bitch telling you the key is on and door is open LOL

 

I spent $1000 to get all speakers replaced with much better ones, a new head unit, two subs 10 inch, all wires connectors and a 1200 watt amp. After they installed everything i spent just under $1000
