Default Really?!!!

I went by a stereo equipment store to see if I can get the volume in the

factory stereo to be louder and they quote me $2200 and 1.5 days of

time. Wow!

Now this includes a 8" woofer and the 4 5x7 speakers and a amp.

I am not stereo professional so I am asking is this a terrible quote, average,

or just trying to take advantage of the opportunity to screw me over.

Depends on what equipment they are going to install, for the average person I would say that quote is beyond stupidly expensive.

Sounds like way too much to me. Now ask them how much of that is labor, haha.

You can replace your door speakers for ~$200

I've only priced out 12" subs, but those were only ~$100 or maybe a little more.

So even if the amp is some crazy amount like $600, they're still wanting $2200?? And I'm sure they get all their stuff at a discounted price on top of that.

Now unless you're getting some really high end stuff, like the guy above me said, that's too much for the average person.

Maybe I am just getting old, but how much louder do you really need it to be?
While I am typing this I am remembering the KISS album "if its too loud, your too old". I think you would be wise to get the quote he supplied, google or amazon the equipment they suggested for your truck and price check. Always do your homework before you spend those $$ bills? It does seem quite expensive for audio equipment installed! Is this a major retailer or smaller shop?

The equipment you listed will cost about 500-1000 depending on the quality. Let's say somewhere in the middle, 750. They want about 1500 labor? And a day and a half! No, they are trying to screw you. Go somewhere else. It does not take an experienced audio company that long to do that work. A couple hours at the most.

You forgot about a sub box. He's gonna need a custom fit one for his truck. Custom fit ones can be a little pricey, but still an outrageous quote from the company. See my above post.

Way too much. I priced out a decent mid range setup for my 12 XLT, 4 Memphis 6X8 door speakers, two Memphis 10 inch subs, box and amp and was $1100 installed.

Course, I went to another audio shop who said it would be $2500 out the door for a full line of Rockford audio gear, but they also said it was $800 labor where as the above place said it was $200 as would take him about 4 hours.

Def shop around.

I just want a midrange price. Something to hear outside the truck when

parked and not in public parking a lot or anything like that, I mean more in

a remote area that you either have windows open or the doors open and

need music for the party that's all.

Around where I live custom audio is quite pricey. It is not uncommon for a box to run $5-600. Amps are not cheap either. They could have you on the hook for $5-600 for that too. You are at 1200 without subs labor or any other speakers. $2200 is not a crazy high price, but I would not pay that much for audio. The places around where I live always try pushing top of the line audio equip down your throat too.

Hell I hardly even listen to my stock system much less subs.

Yes, that is a crazy high price. Where do you live that this costs that much? Someone ripping you off. No normal box costs 500.
