Real Air Filter Testing...EXACTLY how good are aftermarket filters?
I found this study posted on one the diesel forums I go on, but thought it was applicable to everyone on here as well.
I know we've all heard the skeptics, but this is an actual quantitative test on how effective aftermarket air filters at removing dirt and reducing restriction.
The results definitely surprised me...

Pretty awesome. I had been running a k&n drop in filter for a little while. My truck developed a misfire, and was getting kicked into limp mode. It was doing this whenever it snowed outside, and the roads were covered with snow dust. So, with a little research, I chased it down to the fact that snow was getting sucked through my filter, and hitting the MAF, causing the truck to lose power.
I switched back to a stock paper filter, and it hasn't done it since.
I can honestly say, I fell for the gimmics, and thought the idea of being able to just clean my filter, sounded good. I usually don't go for things like this, because I am a firm believer in the fact that the truck came from the factory with certain parts, for a reason. I have never heard of a Ford engine liking anything but Motorcraft parts.

Paper, always on my daily drivers.
My classic muscle cars are completely custom though, with modern drivetrains.
I care more about the LOOKS under the hood, and OEM boxy filter boxes are fugly.

The Freak -O- Boost build with Fords approval back in 2010, saw Full Race Performance pump up a stock Ecoboost. The only modification to the stock air box was a Dryflow Performance Air Filter that replaced the stock Ford OEM. That's what I run and it works great! I can clean it with soap and water and reuse it over and over.
