RAM?????
The Ram 1500 has been named 2013 Truck of the Year....... WTF...... for fun I built a top of the line Ram Laramie Longhorn with all the options....... didn't spec out to the Ford Limited..... granted the 8 speed trany would be nice..... but truck of the year????? Just my humble biased opinion I might add.......
"The three qualifying competitors for this year's event were Nissan's NV (offering a new passenger van option), the Ford F-150 (offering a new trim package, exterior styling and new interior center stack and software) and the 2013 Ram 1500 (with too many new powertrain, styling and technology features to list here). "
I find it funny chevy and GMC didn't even make the qualifying round lol.
But you really can't lie Dodge has stepped up ALOT in their trucks this year, they really did make quite an improvement and they are pretty impressive

Don't get me wrong, I'm a Ford guy. But the new Ram is an awesome truck. Its great for competition, keeps everyone innovating and getting better constantly.
In 2014, the GM truck is getting an overhaul and new engines, so I would expect it to win the award.
In 2015, the F150 will likely get an overhaul/refresh, same deal. Its a cycle that is great for innovation.

I'm pretty sure that most ToTY contests are not so much based off of "Which manufacturer makes the best trucks?", but more of a combination of [see previous question] and "What manufacturer has introduced the most improvements for this model year?". Hence why 99% of the _oTY winners are new/completely redesigned models for that year.
MotorTrend has lost a lot of credibility lately. It's pretty much which pickup had the most new stuff that wins, even if it's all junk.
That said, the competition is good but I'm not buying the "improvement" all their new stuff is supposedly offering.
8 speed transmission: neutral feelings. Good and bad can come from it and we'll see how it goes.
Air bags: negative. Good idea but anyone that does any decent amount of offroad driving with their pickup will have fun replacing cut airbags. Especially coupled with the coil springs.
Shifter: negative. Awkward and belongs in a car, not a pickup. Also doesn't offer manual gear selection.
Interior: positive. A better interior by Ram puts the pressure on Ford to make the F150 even better. That said I've never liked Dodge interiors as they aren't comfortable for me.
All in all I still believe the F150 to be the #1 pickup by far but the Ram did make the most headway this year and that's all this award is.
