Is it OEM or aftermarket? Has it always done this or just started? What does it do when you close the door? The more information you can provide, the better people can assist. Also, you get better results by posting in the correct section for your year. 2004 - 2008 Ford F150 - Ford F150 Forum - Community of Ford Truck Fans

Does the radio turn off when you open the passenger door? If so, then your driver door switch is probably stuck in the closed position.

Try this
Recreate the situation where when the door is open the radio stays on
Then with key removed, jiggle the ignition switch and see if it has any effect.

Mine has a mind of its own too
Driving down the road, the volume will just go up
Cannot turn it off, 04 and 97 did the same thing
Both needed new radios

I had a problem with the factory radio in my 05, it would kill the battery when it sat for a few days. I unhooked it & then the battery no longer went dead so I replaced the radio with an aftermarket JVC radio & it has been fine ever since.

Use the passenger door first. If the radio shuts off when the pass door is opened, you are probably looking at the doorlatch switch on the driver side needing replacement.

  • Seems most likely caused by faulty driver's door ajar sensor, or the accessory relay. No door ajar light on dash combined with the dome light issue makes me suspect the relay, so I'd start testing with it. Looks like it's relay 22.
