Best bet? Someone recommended Cortex. Anyone worked with that or anything like that?

 

Best bet is any of the custom tuned ones. The Cortex is a canned tuned device and is middle of the road as far as strategies go. It does fine for those who are new to tuning, but leaves a lot on the table. Plus if you have any other modifications that need adjusting for, the Cortex won't be able to account for them in the tuning.

 

So what do you recommend for a newbie? 05 F150 with just the chip being the only performance mod.

 

Depends if you want a display with the programmer or not. The Gryphon will give a display, where the SCT xcal 3 is a flash programmer. Post #4 in this thread describes in more detail to help you pick.

ive got an EDGE and i love it. check out Amazon. they have great prices on EVERYTHING. i buy most of my parts from there.

 

Yeah, edge is nice with the display, but apparently they are an attention grabber and they steal them lol
But I would totally dig that display! Lol
How much did you get your edge for?

 

haha yea i was afraid for a while about it getting stolen.

i paid $350. i think it was cheaper than everywhere else.

 

You can plug/unplug the Edge or Gryphon at any time once it's tuned. So if you do live in a high crime area, it's pretty easy to put it on and off when you want it.
