Default problems towing!!

ok....well i pulled my bronco to miller motorsports park that is 35 miles from my house.I started out with a half tank and got home on empty! max speed was 60 and rpm's ranged from 2300 to 4500

it pulls from a stop just fine and stops ok, but get to any cind of a hill and im down to a crawl.

bronco is around 4500 and trailer is around 1000.

my 2001 super crew with the 5.4 pulled the bronco just fine and the owner of the trailer had a 2000 f150 like mine but on CNG and pulled a full size chevy truck with the same trailer and pulled it just fine. im guessing the same as my super crew did?

should i get a different truck with the 5.4???

I like the 4.6, it rev's up fast and really just takes off when ya floor it (better then supercrew did)
but put 5000 + pounds behind it and it's like driving a geo metro!!

with the very little power it has and the shocking bad MPG wile towing i dont think it can make the trip to cali

What is your budget for a new truck? How often do you tow? May like the 5.0 or EB more...the 5.4 is better suited for towing than the 4.6 also but wont be as quick when towing as the 5.0 or EB. Everything depnds on the $!

You can get a brand new XL with a 5.0 L V8 and 3.55 rears for just over 20 grand. It'll pull a heck of a lot better and be better on fuel. I just got mine.

My budget is what ever the truck sells for, and I was thinking it's worth 5k

OP,

I would buy an older 5.4 in your situation. Or Maybe sell the Bronco? (You might hate me for suggesting that)

are you sure that your truck is operating properly? the 4.6 isn't the best motor for towing but at roughly 5500lbs I would have thought your truck was more than capable of towing that load.

no gasser is going to get good mpg pulling over 5000 lbs. my ecoboost gets from 9-15 towing. I could probably get 14-15 towing your load if I drove 55.

I am looking at some 5.4's

And the bronco will go with me to my grave

Just sucks cus this is a good truck and I really like it( besides the door panels)
And I don't tow that much.
I'm moving to cali in a year and will be bringing the bronco with me, it's a 704mile trip going up hill about half of the way.
Should I sell it and get one with a 5.4 or tough it out?

I'm just worried I'll be fueling up every 150 miles and would need a new motor by the time I got there.
