Default phone button on steering wheel

I have a 2011 FX4 (which i just purchased last week) and the phone button on the steering wheel does not work. Dealership will not fix it due to me not buying a warranty. Sync works fine and i can make phone calls using my phone. But when i press the phone button on the steering wheel to either call or hang up, i get nothing. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Thanks for any direction

Are you holding the button down for several seconds? I discovered it takes at least 5 to 10 seconds of holdding the button to make anything happen.

To answer phone , hit button 1 time for about a split sec. Nothing slow as hanging up, you hold the button for several seconds. I typically hit the media button by mistake.

Hi gary2011,

Is the truck equipped with navigation or the basic SYNC system?

Hmm. I guess I'll try holding my phone button down longer. I was wondering why just pressing it didn't do anything.

anyone heard of an internal part within the system that would cause this issue and would need to be replaced?

I will say to first go through the manual and make sure you are synced properly. If you've already synced your phone to the truck, try the voice button to make a call. When you hit the voice button, you just say "call --------" and if it works then your sync is working properly. Also if someone calls you, it should pop up on the display. If all that works properly, then it's the button itself. It may just have some trash in the contacts. You have to remember, there's 4 years of someone eating cheeseburgers over that steering wheel. See if you can pop off the button to clean it. If not, shoot some contact cleaner underneath and work it in. Wish you luck

Check to see if you're able to perform a master reset. This is a good troubleshooting step to try next: http://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-t...ter-reset.html

Let me know the outcome.
