Oh, I KNOW there are millions - that's why I just used the example of 14 options.
I'm sure you do, but I doubt that everyone is aware of the 10 million combinations available.

Another thing to consider.

Does anyone know what percentage of new trucks are special ordered by the retail customer?

Could that percentage be too low to support the billions of combinations available pre-2009?

Even those of us (me) that laugh at these people buy a model that gives them options that have no interest in to get options that they want. It's human nature. I make a list of must-haves and then see what I'm going to get forced to buy to get them, and sometimes make them nice-to-haves.

Our 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid had 1 trim level.

Used to a lot worse in the days when Japanese cars came over with 1 or 2 models (hi and low).
I have to admit,I would have spent another 3,000 bucks to get what I wanted, but I found that out after we already signed the papers for the truck we bought, next time Ill do more research. My wife did tell our salesmen if the truck did not have the over ride button for the auto stop/start we would not have bought it.

lol. Had a 34 way connector that we molded for a customer. Not all 34 pins were used, depending upon the vehicle options. Customer would just release a new part number for each pin pattern as it was required. I cautioned them a couple of months into the program that their part number system would not support the possible combinations coming up. Program manager told me that he talked about just assigned all possible combinations up front and get it over with.

That's when I told him "No, I don't think you want to do that. That's 2 to the 34th power, or over 17 billion possible combinations."

LOL, many people just don't realize how huge the combination possibilities become from a relatively few options.

I would love to see the part # book for your connector.
