Is it OK using different sizes for winter tires?

Default Is it OK using different sizes for winter tires?

I have 275/65/18 LTs on my 2011 Scab. Came with the stock Wranglers.

Not sure if those are any good in the winter, this is my first truck. My old vehicle had Michelin winters and I could really tell the difference.

So Do I need to run 275/65/18 Winters, or could I swap out for 235/75/17s and 17" Rims? Would that screw up anything? Is there a "dialed in" size of the perfect winter price/performance out there?

Nope you can run whatever you want ( long as they aren't so big they rub ) only side affect is smaller or larger tires from stock can throw off your speedo if it's a big change.

i switch my 18's for 17's for winter...stock 275/65r18 to a 265/70r17..try to keep the tires rolling diameter close for all the goodies on the truck like abs/traction/speedo..
i'm only -1.47 % difference this page recommends max of +/- 2.5%

With the size difference in tire you will see a 3.7% difference. when speedo says 60 mph you will actually be going 57.8 mph. so not a huge difference.

just make sure all 4 tires are the same size.

I read somewhere that Ford can reset your tracking computer if you put on shorter tires so that the speedo, etc isn't affected?

Yea they can but it's really not worth it, it'll be off by a couple mph. No big deal, especially since they'll only be on their for a couple months

To a point that is -CORRECT-, however, the wheel needs to be from FoMoCo's stock/option wheel list (or the same diameter as one) ...

*NOTE: The # in parentheses is FoMoCo's RPM (Revolutions Per Mile) for the wheel.

One more question, what about tire pressure sensors? Do I have to put these in my winter set? I'm pretty good at monitoring my pressure already.

I don't get it... if the numbers are RPMs, why isn't diameter, and not width, affecting those numbers? Look at the differences in RPM between the XXX-70- R17s for example.

I run that size for winter. They look a bit skinny under the truck, but are freekin' awesome in snow.
