Yep, I had a 65' International Travelall that had an oil bath air intake. Taking it off sucked but other than that, no problems.

It's funny how the discussion always revolves around dust. I spent some time working in Sweden and Norway where it was common to spray air filters but they did it because of water not dust. It's not unusual to see the engine bay packed tight with snow there which a hot engine melts. A paper filter can easily get soaked and allow water through it. An oil spray helps to shed the water from the filter and weep holes are drilled in to the box or air cleaner.

Best: don't put that much oil on the filter, so it never gets on the MAF.
Next-best: a new manufacturer-branded (Ford/MotorCraft) MAF.
3rd: a good used OE MAF.
4th: pay a pro to clean it properly.
5th: a new knock-off MAF.
6th: blast it with a can of consumer-grade chemical.
