Are you sure the motor is a 5.4?
I wanted to ask yesterday but was giving benefit of the doubt. Now hearing the filter hasn't been changed in 12 years I feel it is appropriate to ask if the filter is being purchased for the correct motor.

This why I asked for pictures.

We're not going to be able to help further without the pictures at this stage. It's obvious something is wrong, but we can't tell what without visual aids.

The filter mounts directly to the engine block, right? It doesn't have some remote mount kit on it?

One other thing doesn't really relate...unless there has been some major ****ery going on before you got the truck....but the Windsor built 4.6L used a FL-400S that is a half inch or so smaller diameter than the 820S. But it has different threads so an 820S wouldn't screw on and think they quit building them before 2009?

The problem is probably here. Probably using the old eyeball comparison method.

You can remove the oil filter without draining the oil. The oil is in the pan, the filter only holds a quart or less. Might be the best way to get a valid comparisons. Take it off, set them side by side. Maybe even take some measurements.

I can’t for the life of me figure this out, I have also went to the local auto parts stores and no help there, can anyone help me resolve this matter ?

Thank you
If it is in fact smaller (the one on the truck), then you probably have a 4.6 (w/ std, not metric threads).

Just buy both types and return the one that isn’t a match. Or, cal dealer give VIN and ask. Or, ask the prior owner. Or post up the requested pics.

My question is about the oil change he used 5w 20 penzsoil oil on all changes should I keep it there or should I change. Thanks for any input and any helpful tips concerning this engine

I have a 97 4.6 windsor and it uses the FL-820S.
