Oh this is a Howler
I was looking at some of the sales figures for the Cash for Clunkers program. It was intended to replace older less fuel efficent vehicals with new ones that where. The number one trade in is the Ford Escape, and get this the number two is the Ford F150. What is funny about the Goverment counts each model of the Escape and the F150 as a different vehical. So the 4x4 Escape is totally different from the 4x2, and the different trim and option levels each are a different model. Same for the F150 so even thought Goverment stat's show the Escape as no higher then 7th place if you combine numbers all of the different models of the two vehicals the Escape is no.1 and the F150 is no.2 in total sales.
If you have, say, a 1998 Ford F150 5.8L V8 with glued in sparkplugs here is your chance to step up to a new F150 and get more then your old truck is worth as a trade in.
Ford was so smart not to take Government bail out money. They are in charge of their own destiny and the consumer knows this and trusts Ford to continue to stand behind their cars and trucks. So many people I talk to that have never been in a Ford Dealership are telling me they are astonished at what they are finding there. GM and Chrysler has lost a lot of long time customers.

I agree, getting people to trade in older paid off cars for cars they need to take out a $20,000 loan for seems like a great way to help people get out of debt. The only people this is helping is the auto makers.
