That's the same way over at one of the Harley Davidson sites. Riders are concerned about fuel mileage at 35 to 40 mpg. Go figure!

 

I am happy as a puppy with two peters that my Harley gets 40 plus, but then again I am comparing it to my F150.

 

but by the time one buys the beater, get taxes paid on it, license it, pay insurance on it...... geez one could buy alot of gas for that........ JMHO

 

Depends on how many miles you drive. I'll get my $1,500 investment back in 7 months with the gas prices what they are. Less WHEN it keeps going up.

 

Lets see,
$3.80 X 20gal = $76.00
16MPG X 20gal = 320 miles Avg.
320 / 40 miles = 8 days
This is what my truck averages. So 76.00 every 8 work days IF I only drive to work.
Now if you by a 30MPG beater for 1500, we won't include tax,tag and title. And 13 gal tank
$3.80 x 13gal = $49.40
30MPG X 13gal = 390 miles Avg.
390 / 40 miles = 9.75 days
Truck = approximately $190.00 a month considering you will fill it up at least 2.5 times
Car = 100 a month considering 2 fill ups a month with a little extra for that half a day. So saving 90 dollars a day it would take you almost 17 months for it to pay its self off. Not including tax, tag and title. An of course if you were to travel more then me, it would be quicker.

 

I have a 25 mile each way trip.
The truck averages 12, the car averages 25.
Insurance only costs me $5 a month extra.

I bought the car for my daughter. I only drive it because it's sitting at home all day anyhow. After seeing how well it's working out, I will be buying one for myself after she takes it for college.

As much as I hate driving a little shoebox, it sure is nice to run all week on $30 instead of $80.

 

now thats a totally diffent equation...... already have the car, i would think about driving it for sure if i already had it......then again my daughter is married, .... so her husband gets the privledge of getting her a car.... lol.........

 

My truck is paid for, no car payments. I don't have to purchase the gas, you have to make the payments. I feel I am well ahead of the game.

 

I will be there in a couple of years, can't wait.

 

But when you drive 130 miles round trip each day, beleive me the savings adds up. Buy a cheap car, it will pay for itself each month. And if you dont do but 40-50 miles a day, why the heck are you complaining about fuel mileage.
