I know Ford is getting a lot of mileage out of not taking a bailout.
I would, too, if I were them.
But my finance guy told me last month, that the reason Ford did not take a bailout was they had just borrowed something like $800 Million (I think that was the number) right before bailouts came out.
He laughed and said Ford regretted taking out the loan, knowing they could have had the same money interest-free if they had just waited.

Thats not exactly how it went... In 2001 Ford sold all of thier properties to a few different banking firms and now technically "lease" these properties and different financial holdings from such banks. Ford saw what was happening and was also low on reserves so they now had a bunch of money in thier bank account but dont technically own anything. The agreement was that Ford could buy back its holdings by making payments based on sales.
