I'm new here, I have been a member of other forums but recently left them. Well I'm Travis and I'm 15. I don't have a F-150 but I got a Ranger. Lol. I like F-150s but the only complaint I have about them is they don't hold up well to oak trees.

Hi Country boy, I'm right down the road (jax) from you! I started with a ranger when I was about 18 or so, loved it, great truck. I've since graduated to an F150 and love it too! Stick around these forums, you'll be an expert by the time you're ready to purchase one.

Welcome to the boards. I started out with a Sporttrac myself back in 2003 then moved up to my F150 in 2006. Nothing wrong with starting small, saving some money and then getting what you really want when you can afford it.

I have found there aren't really many vehicles that hold up well against the mighty oak.

Yeah I don't think I'd recommend anyone try that one. I think the oak is gonna win that 100 out of 100 times.

I owned a ranger in college before i bought my F150. I think the tree situation would be a little more harsh in a ranger than with a F150

Those Rangers are built just as good as a F150 though. I know cause i put mine through hell and back. Besides putting on 180k miles in 5 years commuting from University to home each day, I actually jumped my ranger in a ditch one time, landed successfully and nothing was damaged. I had to have been going 55 mph or so when i fell asleep at the wheel. I was cruising down the highway one night at around 55 mph (speed limit) and the next thing i know im going down the side of the ditch on the right side of the highway. The ditch was very steep and had a very steep angle to the other side of the ditch. I thankfully turned imidiately to the left so that i would be running in the ditch long ways instead of hitting the upside of the far end of the ditch causing my truck to flip. When i straightend her up running long ways in the ditch i hit the concrete slope that supported the culvert running under nearth a homeowners driveway. Hitting that slope was like a 45 degree ramp on a dirt bike. I became air born Thank fully i landed on all four tires at once after clearing the whole driveway and came to a stop in the peoples yard. My engine stalled because i was still in 5th gear (manual shift) while slamming on the brakes. Everything happened so fast that i didnt even get to hit the brakes until i had already hit the ramp and was in the air. Started her up and tore a%$ home. Scared the ever living POOP out of me! It was a combination of studying too much late at night and working as many hours as possible to get through school. Luckily it was at 2am in the morning and no one was on the road. It was a Trail Head edition (off road suspension) ranger with a V6 (early model of the Edge edition Rangers). That was one tough little truck and would do well in the mud too.
