Hackermovie,
you are wrong Ford can and Has declined repairs for these concerns, Why would Ford Pay for an engine for a failed part they didn't make or recommend. If they find that the filter has clogged any oil passages The inspector will report that to Ford they will decline the claim. Just as if you don't change your oil and it failes upon inspection there is sludge in the motor they Will decline the claim, Note this is not just Ford it's all automakers
below are to (service messages from Ford)
again I not looking to have a war about oil filters, and I'm not selling motorcraft, but I've been doing this for 20 years with the same Ford dealer I think I know what I'm talking about.......

18921 2006 MARK LT/2004-2006 F-150/2005-2006 EXPEDITION/NAVIGATOR AND F-250/F-350 5.4L 3V - COLD START ENGINE RATTLE
SOME 2006 MARK LT, 2004-2006 F150 AND 2005-2006 EXPEDITION/NAVIGATOR/F-250/F-350 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 5.4 3V ENGINE MAY EXHIBIT A RATTLE NOISE UPON COLD STARTUP THAT LASTS FOR ONLY A FEW SECONDS (5-10 SECONDS). IT IS POSSIBLE THAT AFTERMARKET OIL FILTERS, CLOGGED OIL FILTERS OR INCORRECT OIL MAY BE CAUSING THIS CONCERN. MAKE SURE THE ENGINE HAS THE CORRECT OIL LEVEL AND THE PROPER MOTORCRAFT OIL(SAE 5W20)AND OIL FILTER(FL820-S)ARE BEING USED BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY REPAIRS.
EFFECTIVE DATE: 11/03/2005

21049 1997-2010 MULTIPLE VEHICLE - 4.6L/5.4L - ENGINE TICKING AND/OR RATTLE NOISE
MULTIPLE VEHICLE LINES WITH 4.6L OR 5.4L ENGINE MAY EXPERIENCE AN ENGINE TICKING OR RATTLE NOISE THAT SOUNDS LIKE A STUCK TAPPET (HLA). THIS MAY BE DUE TO THE DETERIORATION OF AN AFTERMARKET OIL FILTER. VEHICLES WITH THIS CONDITION HAVE LOW OIL PRESSURE AT ONE CYLINDER HEAD ONLY, WHILE MAIN PRESSURES ARE NORMAL. DISLODGED MATERIAL FROM THE AFTERMARKET OIL FILTER BLOCKS THE CAM CAP OIL PASSAGE, EITHER AT CYLINDER #4 (RIGHT BANK REAR) OR CYLINDER #5 (LEFT BANK FRONT). FOR VCT EQUIPPED ENGINES, INSPECT THE VCT VALVE BODY AND THE OIL PASSAGES UNDER THE FIRST CAM CAP. DAMAGE TO ENGINES CAUSED BY AFTERMARKET OIL FILTERS ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.

Yeah, I'm sure someone out there has had an issue with any brand of filter. Pics would have been nice before calling a company out like that. I'm curious though......
How many different manufacturers are there that make oil filters? For example Fram may make Wix, Napa, and Valvoline filters??? I remember Pep Boys oil bottle caps had white caps on the black bottles, because Valvoline screwed it up at the factory where they put their oil in the Pep Boys bottle.

Whoa! I never said anything about a 'part failure'

I said "Ford can NOT decline a warranty repair for failure to use a Motorcraft replacement part."

However, I don't care what Ford said in a Service Message on PTS or Oasis what I can tell you is it is ILLEGAL! I hope your dealership never gets a savvy consumer in there that know's there rights.

Again, you may want to read the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act. I haven't in a few years cuz' it's lengthy but, it's certainly good to know. Oh, and let me guess Ford would never participate in any law breaking activities, right? If you believe that, I've got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell ya

The dealer does not make the final decsion FOMCO makes the final call as to REPAIR or not to REPAIR. The dealer will not take that responsibility or cost of a declined claim. You are correct you can use any aftermarket part you want at the customers exspense. I was just bringing light to a known fact that this has and will continue to happen..

Thanks to seniorFORDtech and hackersmovie for your input. Bottom line, lets keep the lawyers out of it with their money steeling BS. If we can protect ourselve from legal crap, why not? Use OEM, all the time, no matter what! Why invite trouble to promote another manufacturer because of their sales BS.

That's weird, I used Fram Tough Guard oil and air filters on my Mountaineer for like 4 years with no problems.

In response to the warranty stuff: Ford cannot require you to use Ford (motorcraft) brand parts/lubricants for repairs/mainteance; however they can legally require you to use parts/lubricants that meet certain engineering specifications. If they determine that a failure is a result of using products that do not meet their engineering specifications, they can deny a warranty claim and void the warranty.

SrFordTech is correct that if a poorly made 3rd party filter (not saying that Frams are junk, but maybe a dud slips through) causes the engine damage, Ford is released from its warranty repair obligations even under Mangusson-Moss. This is because the damage was not caused by a failure of Ford's product, it was caused by the faulty oil filter.

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/busi...#Magnuson-Moss
Mangusson-Moss provides for exceptions to the no tie-in sales rule, saying that
"While you cannot use a tie-in sales provision, your warranty need not cover use of replacement parts, repairs, or maintenance that is inappropriate for your product. The following is an example of a permissible provision that excludes coverage of such things.
While necessary maintenance or repairs on your AudioMundo Stereo System can be performed by any company, we recommend that you use only authorized AudioMundo dealers. Improper or incorrectly performed maintenance or repair voids this warranty.
Although tie-in sales provisions generally are not allowed, you can include such a provision in your warranty if you can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the FTC that your product will not work properly without a specified item or service. If you believe that this is the case, you should contact the warranty staff of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection for information on how to apply for a waiver of the tie-in sales prohibition."

On a similar note, I'm making 100% sure to get everything replaced ith as close to OEM spec as I can hile under warranty.

Personally, only Motorcraft goes on my Ford. The filters are stocked at Walmart and the same price as Fram. I've never had any problem with Fram, but if the OEM filter is readily available, its a no brainer for me.
