I also used Fram for years, and never had any trouble. I use motorcraft now for this truck, better price for the money.

I had a truck that did that once, 1991 F250 5.8L.....ended up being the pickup screen on the oil pump. When I would speed the engine to high revs, the oil pump would cavitate and lose oil pressure. Shut down, start back up and everything was fine. I changed the oil, filter and pressure sensor before figuring this out.

WalMart sells them. I actually just bought a few of them from my dealer for the same price without asking for a price match or anything - just their std pricing

Wal-Mart has them cheaper than any other place. I have a buddy that exploded one of his engines in his Super/Stock T-bird drag car.A $30-40,000 engine wasted because the Fram filter he was running came apart and dropped oil pressure.Fram payed for the damage..I would not even use a Fram on my Lawn mower!!!

They have declined warranty repairs for these concerns, we advise all are custsmers to use only motorcraft filters with a silicone valve. this also apllies to other cheap aftermarket filter, The newer engines with tighter tolerances and higher oil pressures demand a better filter to handle it.
I'm not looking to start a war about oil filters I just passing along a fact and hopefully some information that will save someone alot of cash in non warranty repairs..
I have to call B.S. on this. I saw the same posts on a z28 website I use to be a member of. I've used Fram filters for years and never had this problem. The last Fram oil filter I bought had a red silicone valve. I've also used Motorcraft, Wix (my favorite), Purolator, and Mopar. Never had a filter fail or "explode". I'll ask the service manager the next time I'm at the dealer but I can't see how they can refuse a warranty repair based on filter brand.

Wow, I couldn't imagine buying one of the cheapest available filters to use on a $30k-$40k engine.
I use Fram's on my wife's stock Civic beater, but I would never put one on any of my cars. I only use Napa Gold filters which are manufactured by Wix.

Interesting read with a link to the actual details on the filters: http://people.msoe.edu/~yoderw/oilfi...ilfilters.html

I use Supertech filters from Walmart on my truck and my Mustang and my previous vehicles and never had an issue with an oil filter.

There is a site somewhere that I saw awhile back, where they disect different filters and Fram fails miserably. There is the issue of the collapsing filters which is not a new problem, but more common is the issue of the cardboard anti-drain back valves. Having said that they are now making better filters with synthetic media and silicone drainback valves, but I just wont use Fram.
I'm not familiar with the purolator filters or wix brand. I've never seen them up here, but we do have Mobil 1 filters, K&N and of course the tried and true Motorcraft filters.

Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act.

Ford can NOT decline a warranty repair for failure to use a Motorcraft replacement part. If they do, they must provide the part 'free of charge'. This is why BMW INCLUDES regular maintence with the purchase of a new BMW.

Regardless of what your dealership is doing, the Federal Government has ruled it is illegal to do so. You may want to speak to your Dealer Principal about this Service Issue. I too work for a Ford Dealership, that is a huge 'no, no'.

Fram filters "meet or exceed manufacturers specifications" - The OP must have just gotten a bad filter, it happens, no one is perfect. I bet if you asked around enough, you'd find someone that has had a bad experience with a Motorcraft filter as well.

BTW - I use Motorcraft or K&N oil filters for everything I own, never had a problem.
