My biggest resson for wanting an eco is the fuel mileage but from what I have read some ecos are getting the same mileage as the 5.0. I do a lot of city driving. Can I realistically expect 20 mpg hwy from the 5.0?
You are going to get 20+ hwy with either engine @ 65 mph (on relatively flat terrain.) If MPG is your biggest decision factor, pick the engine you want because you want it.

If you tow regularly and live in a modestly hilly area, consider the EB was built for that purpose.

Lastly, regarding rar, you did not say what the weight of your trailer is. 3.55 will likely suffice. If however this is all about MPG, the 3.55 and 3.73 are most likely not going to demonstrate a marked difference over the long haul.

Around 20 mpg hwy is possible if you keep it under a certain speed and cruise control ON. Check my previous reply again for my numbers with the 5.0 and 3.73 differential. I think I failed to mention that those numbers are with cruise control on and pretty much the flattest ground possible. I would suspect the 3.55 differential would get slightly better numbers. Just remember the numbers I get are using cruise control. They do suffer a little if I get off the cruise and maintain speed with just my foot. Also keep in mind my numbers are from the computer in the gauge cluster. But yes, when driven conservatively, the 5.0 can get up to those numbers even with the added weight of a 4x4. I'm actually only supposed to get 19 mpg hwy according to the window sticker.

21 mpg cruise set on 70, A/C on the entire time last road trip I took, only had a couple hundred miles on the clock so I suspect the engine was still a little tight from not being broke in yet.

Looking forward to my next road trip for a comparison.

Nice! Both engines are impressive but I personally think you made the right decision, of course I am partial to the v8 because I own one myself. I love the sound when I really get on it. Even with the stock exhaust it has a nice growl to it at high RPMs. I think you'll be impressed compared to your old 5.4 especially with the 6 speed transmission in the new trucks. Enjoy it!
