Issue: My transmission slips in overdrive
A jerk or slip can cause for an uncomfortable ride. When the tranny doesn't seem to be at fault, that ride can translate into uncomfortable feelings; leaving you to wonder what is happening.
Some solutions that were found helpful against this issue were:
• Changing spark plugs
• Replacing torque converter
• Checking the MAF sensor
• Replacing tensioner guides

Transmission slip?
'05 5.4 SCREW.. 110K and I have on several occassions heard a thump like something sliding in the bed .... Upon inspection, nothing was in the bed. Even felt like it was from the bed and the noise was in the back as a result. Only happened twice, when I accelerated from a stoplight or while turning and accelerating from an intersection. I am not a heavy footed driver..... I cannot recreate. Not sure if it is Tranny or drive train.... Any suggestions?

Sounds like you need a rebuild.

Auto transmissions slipping in over drive is 'typically' the torque converter clutch not engaging correctly, tranny or the clutch is shot.
However what the OPer said about it feeling like hitting a pot hole is not 'typically' a slipping torque converter clutch.
Need more details on the truck.
Like how many miles on the truck?
What year is the truck? What engine?
Have the plugs been changed or any other engine sensors changed, checked or cleaned per maints. schedule?
Has the tranny fluid/filter been changed per maints.schedule?

My transmission shifts hard when I’m going about 45 in 4th gear
My 2008 Ford F-150 has a hard shift in overdrive when Im in 4th gear when it goes to overdrive and when it’s at low rpms it feels like I hit something in the road it’ll kick back and shift up I’ve got some instant shudder fix I bought should I put it in?
I checked the fluid and it was good I even changed it and the filter and it didn’t fix the problem does this mean the transmission is going out because the truck only had 118k miles on it

you're torque converter is getting worn. drive it till it dies then replace. my truck was doing the same thing. i had the tranny rebuilt, put a shift kit in it and new torque converter. $1600 (good deal) then drove it from california to michigan. with no problums. as a matter of fact, she will almost bark the tires gong into 2nd.
shift pattern: D.....2nd.....3rd.....4th.....5th.....6th
4th and 6th is torque converter lock up
everytime it hit 4th and 6th it would "chatter" RATATATAT!!
what yours is doing is when you give it some gas it will slip then...BAM! the clutch plates in the torque converter will catch. couse they are worndown.
do you want to know the reason why? on the freeway, everytime you let off the gas the dam torque converter will disengage. to "HELP" slow the truck down...well,
on
off

.....SMOKE!! THE CLUTCH PLATES!. ford and there good idea's
now the reason i had my tranny rebuilt along with a shift kit and new torque converter is couse the tranny rebuild kit comes with a delite kit. that delite kit keeps the torque converter from engaging and disengaging everytime you let off the peddle.
when i got my truck back from the mechanic, i got on the freeway, got up to 65 and let my foot off the gas. the truck didn't downshift like it did before. this tranny and torque converter should last a long time.
