Mud on engine
Go to autozone or another parts place and buy http://www.gunk.com/ follow directions. Also buy the protectant, i use it on my boat and it keeps the engine bay in great condition.
you can use a pressure washer BUT NOT CLOSE! i say take some high quality car wash put it in a bucket, mix it all up nice, park it in the shade and throw the bucket under there and lightly rinse it off, be sure not to stay in one spot where water could penetrate to long.
just doesnt make sense to me. i've dirtbiked by whole life and ruined a bearing or two by pushing sand into the wheels. it's a little more work but you don't run the risk of pushing water/sand where it shouldnt go when you use a cleaner and light water.
then again the pressure washer is easier and faster so you can't go run right?
Read your owner's manual. It says how to clean the engine in there. If you don't have one, load one up for free at ford.com
Boy, you are going to need more than water to clean that mess. Head on down to your neighborhood auto parts store for some CHEMICAL assistance.
I'm curious, did you TRY to make that mess or did it occur naturally ?
I'm going to have to report you to the Ford Truck Police for such a major infraction.
Power wash it.
Use quarter wash presoak.
I leave my engine running too.
Engine is bright and shiny when I'm done.
I do this often enough and for a lot of years on my 72 cutlass, 78 GMC 3/4, old suburbs, tempos, escorts, tbird turbo coupe, rangers, exterra, bmw, flex, 5 f150s, 48' 8n tractor, 51' ferguson tractor, suzuki drz 400.
Heck, even my crappy old olds station wagon took it.
Never a problem.
(i cannot underline the word never on this droid)
If water is gonna get in somewhere, better to find it with the power washer than on I40 in the middle of podunk nowhere after hitting a puddle.
Of course, this is only my opinion and experience.
Dollar store sells squirt bottles and tooth brushes if you'd rather.
