Default model change timing

while looking around the forums, i noted that there is one for 1987-1996 and one for 1997-2003 and am a little confused....

i have a 1997 XLT and my Brother-In-Law has a 1988 XLT, the interiors are pretty much identical ?????

so i'm not sure where i should be posting and asking questions??

help point me in the right direction.

what i'm trying to do right now, is replace my radio ( I want a CD player and have a cassette) and the dashpad that it fits into (it is all broken up)

so, i'm looking for the easiest way to get these parts out of the truck.... i figured out how to get behind the glove box, and got the nuts off of all the studs i could reach, but can't quite figure out how to get into the radio area itself???

the factory radio has 4 holes in the faceplate that look like maybe a special tool is used for removal, or it just has 4 holes for something else (or no reason )

thanks

Both people should look to respective sections. Yes, the four holes are for the radio removal. U-shaped tool (2) required. Would think available at auto parts stores. Insert gentle untill engaged and press away from each other.

Default about your radio

Hey Mudbilly,

If that old Ford factory radio with cassette is still good and you manage to get it out of the dash in usable condition.....would you consider selling it?

I mean if its usable of course

The interiors shouldn't be that identical looking. '87-'91 is different from '92-'96. They might look close to some but there are differences. I don't remember what the '97 interior looks like.

that's what i was thinking when i saw that this site had the forums listed by those years.........of course, my truck will probably have been made with parts from both years becasue that is what they had sitting around the factory...

what even brought this up is that my dash pad insert (or whatever it is called) that the radio goes into is all cracked up, so when we went out to his truck so that i could show him what i needed..........it appeared that i could steal his (they both appear to even be the same grey)

and then the more i looked around the more they appeared the same.........

we didn't have the trucks side by side, so i was only going from memory.........and that was sharpened by a couple cold beers.... once we get the brothers together we will give them a closer inspection

so now i REALLY need to know what year this piece will crossover to so that i can find a nice used one..and not get stuck with something that doesn't fit, becasue they made it a 1/2 inch shorter or something
