Maybe they are seeing something in person I can't see from the picture. If you've had multiple sources recommend it hopefully they were both honest.

that small amount of cracking pictured is not a big deal at all. check the dot date code. small cracking is okay in most tires. the tech who told you differently does not know what he is talking about. deep cracks are what you should worry about. that type of cracking is from your driving habits and a little bit of age. I wouldn't worry about it at yall.
