Yeh dont let the spark plugs, cam phasers, or the pile of proplems associated with the 5.4 scare you away.

But i went 4.6 myself because the 5.4 issues and extra care needed to keep it going.

I know a lot of people, including myself, who haven't had a problem with the 5.4. All they need is regular maintenance. The 4.6 isn't bad though. Other then needing a tranny at 148k my grandpa's is going strong. Did I mention It's His farm truck and pulls a gooseneck full of scrap?

They are both good ones just simpler. And the 4r75e is in both trucks and its a crap trans. Just lasts longer behind the 4.6 cause higher stall speed converter.

Well you guys make a convincing argument for the 04+ models. Did they make any improvements to the rust-proofing? I live in the rust belt, and the 97-03's don't fare too well when it comes to rust.
