Default Low battery warning

Some of you may remember my post a few weeks ago about my truck cranking slow...and not wanting to start. That only happened the one time...and has started fine ever since. I did stop by the dealership a couple of days later to have it checked...but they were short handed in the shop and couldn't get to it that day.

Well, this past Tuesday I got in my truck and when I inserted the key into the ignition, the 4.2" center display showed..."Audio turned off Low Battery".

Then when I turned the ignition on...the dash display showed the large battery icon and said "Low Battery". But when I went to start the truck, it cranked fine (and fast) and started right up.

I couldn't get it to the dealer until Thursday...but they supposedly hooked it up to the diagnostic machine and could not find anything wrong with the truck. Battery tested good...charging system showed 14.1 V, etc. If and when it happens again...I will take a pic of the dash before I start the truck so they will know I'm not dreaming this stuff up .

But it kinda leaves me leery about being out somewhere and getting stranded. The dealership said if that happens, to just call roadside assistance...but that could leave you stranded for a few hours depending on how long it takes them to get to you.

I am wondering if it might be some kind of glitch with the computer. Even when it said "Low Battery" it cranked normal and started. Guess I will just have to wait and see what happens next.

I have a 2014 3.7 supercab that is doing the same thing. I checked the battery when it first did it and it was all fine. I have an XM radio that I mounted in a box on the back seat and I leave it plugged into the auxilary 12V plug in the back. It is off when I am not in the truck, but still draws voltage to keep the radio and tuner memory. I left it unplugged one night and the next morning I did NOT get the messages, left it plugged in the next night and the messages were there again the next morning. I do not get the messages every time I start it cold, but probably do about 80% of the time. Truck has started fine down to minus 15. I think it is just something weird with the computer.

No accessories at all....completely bone stock other than some replacement Alpine speakers in the doors. But this first happened before the speakers were installed.

Other active threads here on this. If you drive short distances or let it set for a few days the battery may not be at 100% charge. The electronics have a heavier drain than older trucks and batteries drop faster. The computer senses the drain and battery down a bit and gives us a dumb message.

The truck has never sat for very long...but it had been sitting for about 36 hours. I had parked it on Sunday afternoon....and didn't get back in it until that Tuesday morning. So it sat all day Monday. One would think that a new truck should be able to sit for a few days before getting such a warning. Hmmmmm.

I think I am just going to keep buying older trucks. My truck just sat for 5 days in -35° two weeks ago. Got in, turned the key, and it started like I had just shut it off. Too much electronics going into these new rides. It's not always a good thing.
