Post Looking for a rust cure!

I have a 1996 ford f-150 that has some pretty bad rust. The only thing that relisically can be done is to spray the rust with dupli color spray paint (ie kemo therapy) its heartbreaking watching my truck slowly desinigrate

I am planning on buying a new truck around the same year but i want to prtect it from rust with some kind of undercoating. Any suggestions???

You need a rust neutralizer to stop it from creeping as much as possible. I've used some stuff on a 57 VW I have around the floor board near the battery. It turns it black and stops the cancer from creeping.

Permatex Rust Treatment. I bought it at Wal-Mart. It's been several years ago. I think it was back in 1998 or so. It hasn't gotten any worse, so I think it worked for me.

Here's a link, I'm sure you can find it cheaper elsewhere.

Got to stop it first. Either cut panel up to rusted area, or replace entire panel. This stuff pretty much stops it. Then you can treat the area how ever you choose.

Bama's got it right, need to stop it before you cover it up.

that permatex looks pretty good. i think ill buy a can and use it on my current truck. However the next ford i buy im looking for one with little to no rust. So im looking to prevent rust rather than stopping it. Has anyone heard of chassis saver? Its made by magnet paints ive heard some pretty good stuff about it. http://www.magnetpaints.com/underbody.asp

I have used rust paint on the frame to good effect, also did some patches on the body couple worked worked quite well (still good after 2 years) other one over rear wheel arch started to bubble, I'll cut it back and let you know the results!! You must do the inside as well as the outside as well don't forget, a good underseal works wonders!!

Good luck happy motoring Billabong
