Default Locking diff or no

Getting closer to getting the F150 but I am in a quandary. There’s are 2 trucks one had the locking e diff and trailer tow package. The other one is just standard 4x4 with the stock axle.
I don’t tow anything yet doubt I ever will. I don’t do any off-roading at all. This is my daily commuter 17 miles highway and regular roads. I do live in Mass so snow is expectancy’s.

Do I need the e diff?

Thanks

The e-locker is awesome on gravel, mud, offroad, and deep snow, but it from what you say your truck won't be driven on anything but plowed streets, so either truck would serve you well - depends on which one you like .

Elocker isn't needed for your typical snowy commutes.

If you don't ever plan on towing anything and don't do any offroading, I'd choose the truck that you like better based off of the other options and price.

When I bought my '13, it happened to already have the option and I used it here and there, but I did take the truck off road. I liked how it worked in my situation so when I bought my '14, I looked for a truck that had it, along with a tow package because it's something else I need. The truck I have now sees time on sandy beaches and I really like the locker for that.

On occasional snowy pavement though, I wouldn't feel shortchanged if I didn't have it. Unless you're in 4L, it doens't work over 25mph anyway. The traction control does a pretty good job of minimizing wheel spin anyway.

Doesn't sound like you'll need it or ever use it. However, if it's an option, I always opt to overbuild. I've used mine in several occasions in soft sand and glad I have it.

Where I live, and I off road bit, I wanted a locker rear end. Glad I got her that way. (a 3.55 locker, 4x4). I don't drive in snow, etc, so I can't comment on that. Will let the folks on the East Side advise....

So the truck that the dealer said that can obtain for me has the locking rear axle but then it has a tow package that adds another $1200 to the plate which I dont ever see myself needing. I can easily see that money going to something that I would like for example spray in liner, tailgate step, tonneau cover. He is trying to tell me that when I go to resell it no one is going to want a truck with out a tow package. It sucks that I just want this color and cant get what I want. At this point Im about to say F*** the truck and just move on. I asked if I can order it then they said it will be 9-12 weeks and your trade value might decrease.

I have it on my truck but I got it because mine is 2wd, ironically. I don't go off road and I live in the south so snow is not a consideration. But since I've been stuck on wet grass in a 2wd (actually 1wd when you have open diffs) truck I got the e-locker for those kinds of situations.

I don't have a tow package OR an e-locker on my truck and I'm very happy with it. I live in Tennessee, maybe 6" total snow per year and mostly highway driving.
