I would go back and find out who this guy is/was and bring his attention to the manager. If the manager still does nothing at least you know who said it didn't require it if this does have to go to court.

well i assume one of the three guys i was arguing with was the manager and i told him about it. they pulled up on their computer and they called napa to verify that they only put 75w-140 in the rear. they went and got a bottle of the stuff they used and read to me that it has friction modifier added in the oil already. i then said why in the hell did the napa guy bring over the modifier to begin with then when they had no intentions on using it. they just looked at me and said nothing.

i also just got done printing off copies from fleet ford maintenance of my year truck owners manual. and it states if there is a complete refill being done that there is to be and i quote "4oz of additive friction modifier C8AZ-19B546-A or equivalent meeting ford specification for complete fill of 8.8 and 9.75 Traction-Lok axles"

so basically ken towerys is screwed. they did put in the right oil, they just didnt add the friction modifier.

well just to give an update for those who are reading this thread. i called ken towerys corporate office and explained to them the problem and the guy said he will contact the manager at the store i had the work done and he is also going to contact the supervisor and inform him of the problem.

hopefully they will man up and except the fact that they messed up so i can get my rear end fixed without having to get a lawyer and taking this to court.

yeah I hope it works out for you, having your rear end damaged can get costly quick and so can hiring a lawyer I am sure(never have had to), it sucks they are trying to rip you off because they cant read the directions, it is so simple.

well upon doing some research i found out a few things. first i looked up ford motorcraft SAE 75w-140 and it said quote.....
" For a complete drain and refill, some limited-slip axles require addition of Friction Modifier, Part Number XL-3 or equivalent meeting ford specification EST-M2C118-A for complete fill of 8.8 and 9.75 traction-Lok axles".

but then i looked up the product ken towerys used which is valvoline synpower 75w-140 and it said quote...........
"Valvoline SynPower Gear Oil is recommended for use in axle applications requiring factory-fill or drain-and-fill levels of limited slip performance. Valvoline SynPower 75W-140 is also recommended for use where Ford M2C-192A, GM 12346140, Chrysler MS-8985 , or GL-5 SAE 75W-140 gear oil is specified. The addition of a supplemental friction modifier(Ford M2C-118-A, Chrysler MS-5630, or GM 1052358) is not required".

so my truck requires the GL-5 sae 75w-140 and the friction modifier needed is M2c-118-A as stated in the owners manual. Now it apparently seems that this brand of oil from valvoline is what i need and meets the requirements of ford. But their product is apparently flawed and my truck is proof. they claim this product reduces chattering but the chattering in my truck didnt start until they put this **** in. Im still going to argue that ford requires 4oz of friction modifier to be added when ever a complete drain and refill is done.

well i just thought i would drop in and say that i doubt im going to get anywhere with this issue. i contacted valvoline and they said that, synpower sae 75w-140 gear oil meets all ford specs. and the friction modifier that is already in there meets ford specs as well. like in the info i posted above, they are right, it does meet ford specs. i also went to chevy and asked them when they do a diff service on their LS axles if they only use oil that already has friction modifier in it and they said yes. they said they dont add any additional modifier. it just seems as if only the ford techs and employees dont actually read things. they say they add additional modifier when they do diff services at the ford dealer i go to it just isnt written anywhere apparently. i still havent heard from the ken towery people yet, but im sure they are doing reasearch themselves so they can prove the dealer wrong. i guess my best bet is to just go and buy some more friction modifier my self and put it in to see it fixes the chattering.
