Default Lift kit question

Hey guys, I have a 2017 f150 on a 6 inch bds lift. My buddy told me that I could put 8inch Coilovers and a 2.5 inch spacer to raise my truck up to 8 inches without the cv axle being at a weird angle because the bds kits come with a cv axle drop. Is this true? Will I have any issues?

That definitely will not work. The differential is dropped as far it will go with your existing lift. Lifting the truck any higher will cause your CV angles to be at far too extreme of an angle.

Also the coilovers themselves provide the lift. You wouldn't use spacers at all. You only use spacers if you have stock-height springs and struts. Once you replace the stock struts and springs with taller coilovers, those coilovers provide the lift.

so is buying a full 8 inch lift the only option?

Yes, that would be the only option. I'm not sure how many 8" lift kits there are on the market, if any. I did a quick look and I couldn't find any. That's not to say that there aren't any, but I didn't see any.

Is there something specific you're trying to do that you can't with your 6" lift? Like a specific tire size?

im on 20x10s on 35s rn with a 6 inch and I can probably fit 37s with my wheel setup on a 6 inch rn if I trimmed it good enough but I wanna go 8 inch on 24x14s and 37s. I’ve been driving 6 inch for 4 months and it feels normal to me now. I like being high up and towering people

I hear ya.

This guy (link below, scroll through) has one of the best setups I've seen with a lift that's higher than 6". He went with a ReadyLift 7" suspension lift which has a 6" differential drop, then separately bought FOX 6" coilovers, then separately bought 2" spacers from Tough Country. He put the 2" spacers on top of the 6" coilovers for around 8" of lift.

With the 6" diff drop, his 8" of height is only 2" above stock, so the CV angles are fine.

For the rear, he used an add-a-leaf and bigger block.

Still not sure you're going to fit 24 x 14 wheels under that, but that's a pretty great setup.
