My brother in law is looking at a 2018 Platinum with only 8600 miles on it. It is being sold at a local reputable Ford dealer. It is CPO. Asking price is $21,000 less than the original MSRP. Below is a snippet from the carfax report.
Notice the last "transaction" is 2/11/20.... sold at auction. Right before that on 10/01/19 is "Ford Motor Company Manufacturer Customer Satisfaction Program issued"
Is that ford doing a lemon law /customer buyback, then selling it to an auction? Or is that something else.... no need to worry about. (Mileage seems to low and price seems a bit to good imho.)
Thanks all...

On the carfax from the truck I bought there is a section specifically for "Lemon" vehicles under title history. they will guarantee it isn't if they didn't find anything
I personally think what you are showing is just where the freezing door handle recall was performed.

Probably right. I just read somewhere on the internet... so it must be true.... that not all vehicle manufacture "buy backs" make it to the car fax data base. I guess I'm suspicious why such a beautiful, fairly new, low mileage vehicle (its not a rental/fleet vehicle) would be sold at auction.... I guess its the way of doing business today...
Do you have the official carfax, or a printout typed like you listed above? My official carfax divulged all of the history of my truck. It showed it as being repossessed on one date, then going to auction about a month later.
my truck was about the same as you are saying ....less than 2000 mile & about 20k under original listing price.

No i don't. Info I have is from the "free" carfax report on the dealers web site. I'll checkout the not free report.

If your brother in law is seriously considering this truck. I feel it would be a wise investment to get the carfax....even if you have to pay for the full version. At least then you have a better idea of the trucks history, not just the snippets that the dealer wants you to see.
I've looked at several GT350 Shelby's (on line) that were Ford 'Buy Backs'. The title is stamped 'Ford Buy Back' and a sticker on the door also. They will be forever labeled as a Lemon Plus they are selling just a couple thousand dollars cheaper than ones with a clean title
I would be very skeptical of buying a Lemon Law vehicle unless I was CERTAIN that the original problem was correctly fixed. OTOH if they claim that the problem was fixed then you have to ask if that was the case, then why didn't they fix if for the original owner?? Vehicles are usually sent to auto auctions because they have a problem that the dealer can't or won't fix, so buyer beware.
All of that said, I did buy a vehicle that I found out later had been taken back by the Stealership under the Lemon Law. We keep having problems with the Evaporative Emissions system and the Stealership kept saying that we hadn't tightened the gas cap. However after the 3rd trip back to the shop, the light came on again two days later and we hadn't added any fuel or opened the cap so the last person that touched it was the mechanic at the Stealership. I took it back to the Stealership for the fourth time and told them to fix it or I was going to start proceedings under the Lemon Law. This time they actually troubleshoot it and they found that the charcoal canister was cracked and not holding a vacuum, they replaced the canister and the problem never returned! The stealership could have saved itself having to take back a car and a lot of ill will if the mechanics had simply done their job in the first place instead of just blaming the owners for "not tightening the fuel cap"!
That problem was an easy fix but after seeing how the Stealership bungled that repair over and over and over again. I have little hope that they would properly fix a more difficult problem.
Unless your BIL is a GOOD mechanic and is GOOD at troubleshooting and it willing to try and fix the problem himself, I would advise him to RUN away from this deal. And I'll finish by repeating: The Stealership has had multiple opportunities to fix the original problem but they either couldn't or wouldn't. That should tell you everything that you need in order to make your decision.
If he is serious about the truck, in addition to the other mentioned investigatory paperwork, he will also be willing to take it to a mechanic for a thorough check.
I don't know if $21,000 off of the normal asking prices is cheap though.
If I understand what you posted, you are saying the 2018 truck has a current asking price of around $39,000 (assuming the original price is ONLY $60,000).
The miles are slightly under average for the life of the vehicle. Or about average for how much I drive annually. I have to try really hard to get over 8,000 miles/yr.
