Thanks for all the input. I do plan on keeping the truck for a long time. That is the one thing that has me leaning the KR way, my friend has a 10 year old + 200,000 mile, northern Michigan KR and the interior looks (and smells) new.

If I could’ve swing it I would’ve ordered a KR but my budget was Lariat.

I highly doubt Ford pays someone 1000.00 per truck for King Ranch!

My local dealer just got a Atlas Blue Lariat delivered and it a very nice looking truck. I'm really leaning towards the Lariat now.
I can’t speak to the new models. But historically, the KR was a sub or extra model of a lariat (somewhere you’d actually it referred to as a Lariat KR pkg). But I believe main KR differences were just the leather in seats and consoles/steering wheel, and usually something over gauge area. Plus the badging

I love the 08 and earlier leather. After that it’s still nice, but never liked it as much after that point.

what I really don’t/didn’t care for (in later model years) was how they plastered “KR” every where and made it so pronounced, especially on out side. Especially hate the big extra plastic crap on the tailgates. Don’t like the look, and that type of stuff always seem to create/make Rust.

Is it a $5k premium just for KR leather as compared to an otherwise equally equipped lariat ? Or were there other options driving that variance (ex sunroof or other options)?

I agree with you concerning the KR logos. There are 6 just in the front seat area.
The base price of the KR is $8,600 more than the Lariat but once you configure the 2 models as close as possible it gets to be around $5000 due to some odd pricing such as the Ecoboost is $800 cheaper in the KR for some reason. The KR high package does include some items I really don't want such as the power running boards.

It's only going to cost $70/month if financing for 6 years. If you like the KR, is $70 worth it.

I'd review the specs you want vs the specs of the truck that you can drive home today and compare. Then you will know if you want to wait for whatever it is that is missing from the Lariat.

Look up a PDF version of the brochure and you can see what you can order on a KR. Take that list with you when you look at the Lariat. If the KR can be ordered with massaging seats and you really want that for $70/mo, then order it (I don't think a Lariat can have massaging seats unless they allow it now, they didn't in years past).
A friend has a 2016 Platinum. I have a 2016 Lariat. His truck has dark glass for the sunroof, mine is polarized blue. His has power running boards, mine do not. He has massaging seats, mine does not.
That's about all the difference is between our two, that I know of. Well and the obvious nicer leather quality in the Platinum.
I personally don't like the KR branding on the seats would would NOT buy a KR just because of that, regardless if it had everything else I wanted. If it had a moonroof and I didn't want one, I feel like I could overlook that.

It's been a day since you created this thread, I'm sure you've been doing your homework. If you haven't though, you should because by now that truck on the lot may have already sold.

They each have their pros and cons and I only have time to name one. The Kings Ranch interior is nicer. But you can get an Atlas Blue Lariat.

Exactly correct. An Atlas Blue Lariat I found at my local dealer is what triggered my second thoughts if a KR is really worth it. That is a nice looking truck, in reference to 16IngotFX4 comment, yes its been a day since I posted this and yes, the Lariat was immediately sold. I think there are people actually following the truck haulers to the dealers to see if the trucks being delivered are for sale.
