Ford runs deep in my family we've always have had them, but it seems like all the kids my age that I hang out are so ignorant and hate Fords it's rather annoying and slightly
pisses me off. Anyone one else have this problem? it's even more annoying considering they've never owned or even driven a Ford I never talk **** about their Chevys.

Well I'm an older guy and I liked the look of the Dodge best. If Dodge had a 6 speed I might have considered it, but the resale....
Not a FORD guy per se. BUT, I drove all of them and decision was obvious. Interior, build quality etc. Had a 92 Dakota and 02 Ram and they were great trucks. Had a used 02 Chevy with 105k on it and it was great as well.
Zap got it best......each company has some good years and bad years of poor engine and/or transmission design. Read up on forums and you'll get up to speed.
People I see always comment on how nice my F150 is. My "Mercedes brother" now drives an Edge Limited. I think the word is out about Ford now.

1. Look at sales figures. Ford does not lack in popularity in the truck market at all
2. Keep in mind just because one vehicle or brand is popular in your area does not mean that is true throughout the country
3. Blind brand loyalty for a car company is stupid no matter what brand it is. No car company is perfect, including Ford
I think the big 3 (Ford, GM, Dodge) all make good trucks these days. I've known numerous family and friends who love and swear by their brand of truck. I went into buying my first truck and first vehicle I actually decided on (first vehicles were family hand-me-downs) open to any of them. I preferred the F150 for numerous reasons and thought it was the best fit for me, so that's what I got. And I'm 23 so I probably fit in the young demographic. My family was opposed cause they have had nothing but trouble with the Ford vehicles they've owned in the past. But I love my truck, and most of them have come around to saying that it is a nice truck. IMO anybody who is blindly brand loyal over a truck company and who has nothing better to do then talk bull**** about a different brand is a stupid, ignorant human being. So when you hear them say junk, let it go. They're not harming you in any way, and there is no reason to take it personally. Just understand they're stupid and go on your merry way

For what it's worth I bought a first gen Frontier when I was 'young'. (1) It was cheaper then everything else and (2) Nissan was suppose to be reliable. I kept that thing 11 years before picking up a 2011 F150.
I never reached 170k mi but had lots of weird things go wrong. Took the head off before 100k mi and had it redone by a shop. I babied it in terms of maintenance. I do have to say it was a simple truck and very easy to work on. Luckily never left me stranded.
2nd gen Frontiers are even worse. Just google "Xterra Frontier Strawberry Milkshake". They just had an article in the NYTimes about the transmissions going out.
Also briefly considered the Tundra until I read about AIP failures which can upwards of 4k depending on the failure.

well, I'm 16, when i tell most people i drive a F-150 they lose interest in the conversation. I guess when i said i loved my vehicle they though i had something cool like a Mustang, BMW, or a Civic. And most people don't believe me when i tell them i drive the #1 selling vehicle in America. Teens are just oblivious and only recognize iconic things like mustangs. Where i go to school everyone drives a Chevy, or a foreign car. a few mustangs, and only 2 other F-150's and one F-250.
Goodmorning y'all
I personally think that the reliability has a lot to do how you drive; cold engines/full throttle shortens the life of everything. Bad maintenance/lots of miles doesn't do good either. I do know some people , who are regular 'trannyswappers" due too a wrong way of use.
The younger gen. ,who like to make wheelspins are good customers for the trannyspeciallists and full throttle on LPG gives burned valves.
I'm driving like an 'old fart"; I rev her seldom up above 3400revs and when I do so, I take care that she is warmed up. Because of the reputation of the E4OD, overdrive is off under 52mph; it's better for the engine as well to give some more revs. when one gives a look inside the E4OD, one can see the the OD is situated directly behind the torque convertor. That means , that all the revs are consumed by the OD. when driving inn OD, the planetary gears do make such revs and the oil becomes so hot, that an OD runs out in short time. for a lot of younger guys here a V8 means going fast, but when we all should look at the technical details and giving some more TLC. then you'll see what a magnificent truck we have.
I drove a 1962 Landrover for 21 years; she was three times out of order, a broken battery, a startermotor and a clutchslavecilinder. A lot depends how one drives.
My ford is very reliable; one of the best cars qua comfort and space.
best regards Ton

My 10th gen has never stranded me, just isn't as reliable in the fact something is always wrong with it. Like for instance, now it looks like my slave is going out...again. Second time in 60K miles, the clutch is warped and has a very violent chatter (only 40K miles on it) and the engine has a faint knock to it (131K miles). Now I am not what one would call kind to the truck either. I take care of it and maintain it, but it gets driven long and hard. When the speeds are under 30mph, its not on any kind of graded road. Just this weekend and drove the front crossmember into the ground crossing a fairly deep rut and pushed through it. Everything is currently working (to an extent) and the slave going would be the first major issue in nearly 30K miles, which is semi-aceptable to me.
