Default Keys in ignition

If I want to use my spare key to start truck in the winter, to warm up, is there any way to program the locks that the doors will lock while the truck is running, and I can use my other key or door keypad to unlock the truck? Thought this may be cheaper right now then $500 for an auto car starter. Thanks for your help.

I'm confused. What would you need to program? Can't you just start your truck and then lock the door? I just got my truck last night and it's not with me so I can't check it. This is what the manual says about locking with the keypad.

To lock all doors,
press the 7 8 and the 9 0 at the same time. You
do not need to enter the keypad code first.

If the keys are in the ignition you can not lock the door.

Works on my truck, at least. The lock/unlock button inside doesn't, but hitting 7/8 + 9/0 on the keypad locks it.

Yeah I put a little spring clip on my key fob so I can take it off easy. My truck spends lots of time idling. I figure I drive it hard enough to clean it out

Thanks guys!! The great tip about the keypad in the door works perfect. Now I can leave it running and lock the doors with the keypad with no issue. Then put my key fob on a spring clip to take off just in case. Thanks!

Lol...I thought the same thing until I locked myself out the other night. I remote started the truck, then decided i needed the headlights on to see something. I unlocked the door with the key fob, reached in to turn on the lights and then realized they wouldn't turn on without the key in the ignition. I inserted the key, turned the lights on and shut the door. Somehow, still not sure what happened, I locked the doors during this process. As soon as the door shut I had a bad feeling and tried to open it back up only to find that I had locked myself out of my running truck...lol. What a dumb*****...
To make matters worse, I have had the truck a few months but never bothered to learn my door code. Luckily for me the code is on a code in my wallet. Unfortunately the wallet was safely locked in my truck....dumb***** squared!
Had to have my Dad drive me to my house to get a spare...in his new Silverado.....ride of shame....
Needless to say I now have my door code burned into memory. I still do not know how I managed to do this. My old Tundra would not let you lock the doors if the key was in the ignition. Some kind of strange situation with using the remote start. Still love my truck, even if it is smarter than me...
